Happy Christmas.

A bittersweet Yuletide indeed.

I finally feel alive have some energy again. It had been a while.

Still home, feeling ill, though I'd say my symptoms are improving.

Rumors have been traded between my work colleagues that they may be closing off Inner York to prevent the plague from spreading outside the walls any further than it already has. I get the feeling that would be fairly hopeless at this point.

Seeing as how I'm beginning to feel somewhat ill, I'm going to have to take precautions and cancel my plans for the week. Apologies to those of you who I had planned to have lunch with tomorrow; it would have been lovely to get together.

I'd recommend those of you who can avoid Inner York do so.

The past few weeks have been hell. I've been so busy trying to make the center a reality, work (you know, the job I still have despite my best efforts to sever my ties to bureaucracy?) has been piling up, and my personal life has been slightly in the weeds. Sorry for those of you who I have ignored in order to keep the other aspects of my life from crumbling apart.

Oh, right, and there was an arson. There are some horrible rumors flying around at the moment. I'm not sure what I believe (I do have my own theories, but I don't find it prudent to share them in such a public forum lest they become canonized as fact). That said, I have enough faith to say that it wasn't me. So if you started that particular strand of gossip, consider it ended. You know who you are (and I'm fairly sure I do as well).

Progress is being made towards the center. We are steps closer to finding a location, though I may have to offer my firstborn to cement any concrete deals. Real estate in York can be quite difficult to come by, especially when you're looking for a proper environment for children.

In other news, I'm looking to get rid of my mirror. A luxury item, I'm aware, but if you know anyone who might be willing to trade me for it, send them my way.

The center (and much of my life) will have to wait for now, I suppose. Now that Stewart's dead, I've got to go back to full-time for a bit.

And I so enjoyed my newfound freedom.

I'm starting a center to foster better relations between the magical and the mundane. It's for children. There are simply not enough things for children to do here while remaining safe--and I think this will help our two cultures (for, in a sense, that is what we are) better understand each other.

I'd love to give you more details, but I'm still trying to work out what exactly I can do with such limited resources.

From now on, I'll work part-time at Civil Defence Committee while I try and get this off the ground.

I am apparently horrible at masquerades. Not only were most of my guesses wrong (but then again, I didn't know a good number of the guests), but apparently I am not so good at hiding my personality behind a mask. Since a number of people told me that you had figured me out.

Ah well. Still a lovely evening; perhaps not the party I had envisioned, but it certainly did fit the bill.

Just so I don't get another owl, I did not leave that first personal ad in the paper. I have a certain amount of respect for Descartes (even if he was largely incorrect about the way the world operates) and would never embellish to the point of calling myself luscious.

I wish it were not so impractical to go to the seaside. I've always found the ocean so comforting.

Mrs Dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself.

I want to host one of those sorts of parties. Such things seem so frivolous now, but they are also the only things we have to hold on to. I assume that was the prevailing logic after The Great War, anyway. Theirs, I mean. Ours is still fresh in my memory. What a lark, indeed.

Reading over that again--and much that I've written here--I finally appreciate how much like a crazy person I sound (I imagine you're cheering somewhere, Seamus). Hopefully that's just my peculiarity and not the overwhelming spirit of the times--though perhaps it's wrong to speak of a "spirit of the times", since we are separated from the rest of the world; a regional spirit is probably more of an accurate phrase.

My time at work has become increasingly concerned with Lancaster. This is the kind of paranoia I thought we had finally overcome in May of 1998.

I imagine in America, they're blowing up things and celebrating their "freedom" and "independence". And yet for Britain, there is nothing worse than being separated from the rest of the world.

I am not sure what to think about the rumblings underneath the surface these days. Perhaps I would be safer if I were outside the walls, at least for a bit I am not sure what there is to think about. Perhaps it is the same discontent and frustration that we have always been plagued with, but I fear that the recent murder and current string of crimes may be the spark to the powderkeg.

It's a shame, too. At a time when all of Albion should be working together, we find ourselves fragmented apart.

Between meetings and discussions, the past two days have been a blur. Going into work on a Sunday is never fun, and yet when something like this arises, my hand is forced. Generally I like the challenges my job brings, but defending wizards is tough when I have no concrete details of the murder and apparently there were some rather intriguing tactics used in the stand-off with the mob.

I'd hoped I would enjoy Lucius Malfoy's demise slightly more, but the chaos it has brought among us--well, I suppose it is rather appropriate, given the man's nature when he was alive.
